Wiring Harness Engineer

Wiring Harness Engineer needed for a manufacturing company located near Knoxville, TN. Starting salary range will depend on experience, education, and training ($76,000 to $100,000). This is a DIRECT HIRE opportunity with a major brand in their industry.

Job Description: The Wiring Harness Engineer will support the development and launching of new wire harness assemblies used on products across multiple brands. The Engineer is expected to keep track of project milestones, deliverables, and pulling together the contributions of team members into a cohesive final product. This Engineer is also expected to get their hands dirty in the details of new electrical systems – reviewing/revising schematics, creating solutions to complex electrical and mechanical problems, parts, components and materials utilized within the design, integrating into the manufacturing process, and testing system implementations.

The ideal candidate has experience designing and analyzing wiring harnesses, experience in manufacturing environments, a demonstrated ability to innovate within small teams, and possess practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical product design. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·      Manage new electrical designs and continuous improvements through the maintenance of harness schematics and component development, ensuring that manufacturing operations conform to standards

·      Assess new projects for viability (design limitations, cost concerns, functionality, quality, and tradeoffs). Present projects to team along with recommended solutions.

·      Provide technical leadership across engineering and manufacturing teams.

·      Responsible for the preparation and daily management of estimates, cost reports, BOM’s, and project schedules for multiple projects and suppliers.

·      Regularly identify opportunities for electrical harness improvements and re-engineer designs to enhance design for manufacturing, quality, and reduce cost to include, but not be limited to, commonization of components, wires and parts.

·      Establish validation standards, develop testing protocols, and document test results for electrical and supporting mechanical systems. Direct and coordinate supplier compliance with specifications.

·      Use engineering and computer design software, specifically AutoCAD and Arcadia

·      Obtain and maintain American Boat and Yacht Council (‘ABYC’) Certification

·      Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

·      Proactively identify and resolve engineering and manufacturing related issues and have a thorough understanding of product manufacturing processes.

·      Collaborate with management, production, supply chain, and purchasing to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing electrical products.

·      Pursue and support cost reduction and quality improvement activities

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:  

BSEE, BSME, or related degree from ABET accredited university preferred

5+ years of professional experience in manufacturing environment preferred

Experienced with AutoCAD

Ability to read, create and maintain electrical schematics and assembly drawings

Ability to use measuring devices such as calipers and multimeters

Ability to collaborate and build partnerships with multiple business units within a company

Strong project management skills
