Time Management Techniques for More Productivity

No matter how hard you try, you cannot create more time in the day. There is a set number of seconds, minutes, and hours, and you are confined to their unbreakable laws. While more time isn’t a possibility, it doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to use your time more effectively.

Time management techniques provide ways to channel your time better, and one size doesn’t fit all. Check out the time management concepts below and determine which is right to increase your productivity.

The classic to-do list

Sure, this isn’t revolutionary, but you can’t talk about time management without mentioning a to-do list. Ideal for people driven by tasks, the key here is not to make an overwhelming list that makes your day seem impossible. Take time every morning and think through what needs to be done and how much time you have. Stretch goals can be helpful but focus on what you know you can get done and mark it off as you go.

Try to eat the frog

Mark Twain made this famous when he said to start the day by eating a live frog, because the worst is now behind you. If you are someone who gets sidetracked easily, eating the frog allows you to take care of the biggest think on your plate first, so the rest of the day seems easier, and the pressure is released without one daunting task ahead of you.

Use the Eisenhower matrix

Are you good at accurately assessing a situation or workload? If yes, you will probably love the Eisenhower matrix. Using it allows you to compare the importance and urgency to make sure you prioritize the correct task. Check out this instructional video to see how to set it up for use.

Get into alliteration for the 4D system

This is another good one for the list makers out there because you can evaluate your list against the 4Ds to determine your priority level. The Ds are delete/drop, delegate, defer, and do. Using this technique allows you to organize your list further into what you are going to do, what you are going to ask someone else to do, what you will do later, and what doesn’t need to be done at all. We all know those tasks creep in.

Beat procrastination with the Pomodoro Technique

Don’t worry daydreamers and procrastinators, there’s a method for you, too. If you make a to-do list but find the days just pass you by, you may enjoy this technique. Try breaking your day in 25-minute segments with slots for all of the work you need to get done. This higher level of accountability keeps you to a schedule and adds the urgency you just might need.
